Long-Form Writing
Insomniac
Project: Feature articles
Role: Writer + Editor
For: Insomniac Content
Years: 2014-2018
The Client
Insomniac is the biggest producer of electronic music festivals in the world. Best known for its global Electric Daisy Carnival brand, the company has been responsible for dozens of annually recurring events on three continents, as well as countless concerts and club nights in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and beyond.
The Team
-
VP of Content: Rich Thomas
-
Director of Content Development: Rob Simas
The Challenge
As part of its new content-driven initiatives, Insomniac brought on a dedicated team to create a steady stream of music-related pieces and keep the drumbeat going for event ticket sales.
The Result
I interviewed musicians, event producers, fans, and charitable giving recipients for feature articles on Insomniac.com—along with writing music reviews for our regular columns. I also served as copyeditor for all content in digital and print form.
Coalition for Clean Air
Product: Annual reports
Role: Writer + Designer
For: CCA Board of Directors
Year: 2011
The Client
Coalition for Clean Air is California’s only statewide organization working exclusively on air quality issues. Since 1971, CCA has paved the way for socially and environmentally responsible air policy nationally and worldwide.
The Team
-
Director of Development: Liz Ernst
-
Campaign Director: Martin Schlageter
The Challenge
CCA's achievements were often difficult to quantify. They were hard-won over the course of years, requiring collaboration between staff, membership, and partner organizations. Furthermore, the science and politics of air quality advocacy can seem dull at first glance. Painting a compelling portrait of the work means telling stories about communities, people, and the air they breathe.
The Result
Tilling the information for CCA's annual reports required in-depth collaboration with staff and board members. I headed up the project, compiling data and crafting a cohesive narrative for our donor base.
